What we build
ZoomCap is a screen recorder with automatic zoom. You record a demo, and the editor zooms in where you clicked and typed, redraws a smooth cursor, and exports an MP4 or GIF up to 4K. There are two ways to record: a free recorder in the browser, and a command-line recorder (npx zoomcap record) for macOS and Linux that captures the click data automatic zoom needs.
Why it exists
Tools that make screen recordings look polished mostly cost $108 a year or more, run on one operating system, or upload your footage to a cloud editor. We wanted the polish without those trade-offs: a $29 one-time licence, recording and editing that stay on your computer, and a recorder you can start from a terminal on macOS or Linux.
Timeline
- February 2026: zoomcap.live registered and the first version of the editor built.
- July 2026: the
zoomcapcommand-line recorder published on npm for macOS. - August 2026: Linux (X11) support in the CLI, contextual cursor icons.
- September 2026: redesigned editor and site, this blog's testing and disclosure rules.
How we make money
Only from ZoomCap licences: $29 once, or $12.49 a month. There are no ads, no affiliate links on this site, and nobody pays us to be mentioned. Payments are processed by Dodo Payments, and if ZoomCap doesn't work for you and we can't fix it, we refund you within 14 days.
How we write about competitors
We publish comparisons that include ZoomCap, which is a conflict of interest. We handle it by saying so at the top of every post, dating every price, naming where other tools are better, and listing what ZoomCap doesn't do. The full method is on How we test. If you find a mistake, tell us and we will correct it and note the change.
Where your data goes
Recordings stay on your computer. The short list of what we do hold, and who processes it, is on Security & data flow and in the privacy policy.
