Is anything recorded or uploaded?

No. The video preview and mic meter run entirely in your browser using your device's local media APIs. Nothing is saved, transmitted, or stored — closing the tab ends everything.

My mic bar doesn't move. What's wrong?

Usually the wrong input device is selected. Check your OS sound settings (System Settings → Sound → Input on macOS) and make sure the right microphone is chosen and its input volume isn't zero. Also check that no other app has exclusive control of the mic.

My camera shows a black screen.

Another app (Zoom, Teams, OBS) may be holding the camera. Quit other video apps and click Try again. On macOS, also confirm your browser has Camera permission under System Settings → Privacy & Security.

What mic level is right for a recording?

Speak at your normal volume and aim for the bar to sit around half to three-quarters, only occasionally approaching the red zone. Constant red means clipping — your audio will distort. Barely moving means you'll have to boost gain later, which amplifies noise.
